A Glimmer of Hope

Every so often … a glimmer of hope.

These kids get it.  How come the Congress doesn't?

I was getting pissed at the beginning.....I'm glad that they finally opened their eyes.  I'm hopeful that their conclusion resides in the hearts and minds of all Americans.

Nice job kids... for helping him spend my childrens prosperity.  I think an I.Q. test should be administered before you're allowed to vote.  The next 10 months will be interesting.

If these kids can hold onto the right ideas without the old gen corrupting them when they get there, this country may have a future.

Hopefully they will come out in the millions to vote him out.

LOL - Made by the Tennessee College Republicans...too much, really!  Broken Record Time....Bush and Reagan are responsible for well over 70% of the debt....why do you guys refuse to acknowledge the basic facts?

Posted by Karl Hess, on The Jersey Shore (Keller Williams Ocean County) 5 months ago

You all get your own opinions - but not necessarily your own facts.

Yes, Karl - the last time we were debt free was under Andy Jackson. Yes - both parties have contributed to the debt and yes - I have been critical of spending under Bush.  All that said, this President spends like there is no tomorrow (he may have a point) and accumulates debt while destroying the economic engine that was believed to be capable of paying out the previous debt.

And I don't care what others did, Karl - I think this one is wrong and I hope the Republicans will stop him at the next election.  Note the countdown to Election widget to the right on this page.

The point of the video, Karl was that in one area and one group of kids, these kids re-evaluated their support for the President in light of his record and are saying that they no longer have belief in the President or his policies - and they are going to vote based upon their new understanding of the world.  You may disagree with them - but they are entitled to their opinion too Do not mock them personally.

Thanks to all for stopping by.

Karl - Both parties have given us more debt and more government. However, Obama is like Bush on steroids.

Ted - As a Republican, I did not want McCain or Obama. However, as Obama won, I was glad that he was going to undo the wars, the spending and Patriot Act. However I was mistaken!

Hopefully these kids will join Ron Paul this election!

Not to be disparaging, but the point of the video is blatant propaganda.  Yes, a group of southern REPUBLICAN students made an anti-Obama video...hooray.

And you're right, we should only be working with one set of facts:  Reagan tripled the debt, Bush then, at a minimum, doubled what Reagan tripled. The major causes of the debt explosion since Clinton are; two wars, the Bush tax cuts coupled with spending increases and the huge loss of revenues caused by the economic meltdown.  The one thing that can be hung around Obama's neck is the stimulus package which every Keynesian economist supported...and 1/3 of the stimulus were MORE tax cuts supported by Republicans.

As I have pointed out before, Cato, the CBO and Pew all have Obama responsible for approximately 1 trillion dollars of the current debt.

What I don't understand is this blind faith in a Republican President to get our fiscal house in order when we have hard evidence (and history) showing that they are incapable of doing so....mind boggling.

Karl - you know how I feel about starting a conversation several days into a post after all who will read it have already done so.

Once again - lay off the propaganda talking points.  I have presented the video as their opinion - and I expect you to respect their opinion as I try to respect yours.  You do not have to agree - but present your argument without the name calling.

First I should note that all appropriation bills originate in the House of Representatives. So what we are talking about is a lack of Presidentail leadership. I would have to check it out to be certain but we have not had a budget since Mr Obama took office - and that strikes me as unusual - and inexcusable when we are borrowing 0.42 out of every dollar spent.

And again, Karl, I don't care how we got here.  I have agreed with you that there is plenty of blame to go around.  But I want a solution now and that means the current President must be removed from office in November.  The TEA party groups around the nation have shined the light of reality on the Federal government and our spending. Maybe that should have happened 30 years ago but it is a fact of life now.  If it will make you happy I will tell you that I do not intend to vote for Mr Reagan or Mr Bush in November either. Britain has had the will to do what was necessary under Margaret Thatcher - but has lost their will in current days.  Canada has taken steps to avoid our problems.  But the US lacks the government will to do what must be done.  And I believe our leadership in Congress and in the White House lack the willingness to act. There will be a price to be paid for our negligence and it may happen before the November elections.

If we increase our debt ceiling again - expect more rating agencies to downgrade US debt which could result in sharp increases in our cost of money in the markets.  When we can't sell or debt into world markets - then there will be hell to pay. I do not believe that the President or the Congress get it and I do not expect workable solutions to come from political institutions before a major shift in power - if then.

Propaganda talking points?  This video, produced by Republicans, is trying to pass itself off as a voice of the younger generation and implies that the current administration is responsible for the debt crises.  What we know is that the debt crises was caused by outrageous spending and tax cuts while Republicans were in the White House.  The facts are clear; 10 trillion dollars of the 14.5 trillion dollar debt was created during Reagan and Bush 2, period.

Horsepuckey, Karl.

There is no point in my repeating myself when you are not reading or responding to what I say.  Please do not tell me what "we Know" when what you mean is what "you believe".

This video is presented by a local organization and "passes itself off" as the opinions and first hand experiences of the participants only.  Anything beyond that is your spin.  I present the clip for your review and others in the hope that younger viewers will find a message that resonates with their own experiences.

I welcome your comments on my blog posts, Karl, although we frequently disagree because there are many sides to every story and topic and I like to give my readers the chance to see differing views in the hope that they will analyze and decide for themselves what is truth and what is pandering. These are complex issues and need discussion.  But "WE" do not "KNOW" that the debt crisis was caused by outrageous spending and tax cuts... If that is your opinion - bring it on and we will talk about it - although in another post on another day.  But "the facts" are not clear and representing your opinion as fact does not enhance your credibility.

You read - you analyze - you decide what you believe.  OK - that is what I want to hear about and what I want you to tell others in response to my posts.  What is your process and what data do you consider important as you think about the questions.  Tell me about that and you are presenting an argument that tells my readers what you think - and more power to you.  But you are not going to come onto my blog and call anybody names or spit on their opinions because they are welcome here too.

You can disagree without being disagreeable, Karl - You do not have a monopoly on the truth and neither do I.  I try to present my side of the argument in a way that readers will find rational and convincing.  If you do the same we will all learn something in the process.

We have a long year to go until November 6 elections (301 days according to my countdown widget on the right side of the page).  The President will have to defend his record if he wants another four years.  I may argue that he should be fired so that the adults can fix this mess.  I suspect you may have a different point of view.  OK by me.  But I will hope that you change your tone and contribute to the discussion not just to the vitriol.

Karl - I looked more into this. you are correct, it is right wing propaganda. This group formed and supported McCain in 2008! Also, the kids had to known that Obama was going to push health care down their throats. I mean, it shouldn't have been a shock to them. Where Obama failed was on his promise to end the wars, transparency in government, his spending cut proposal and his promise on restoring civil liberties. Do I think McCain would have done better?? I doubt it. Look at his voting record now. Do I think the Republican party can correct Obama's mistakes? No, as the majority of the party is doing business as usual. The recent vote on the NDAA just goes to prove my point. The only hope these kids have now is with people like Ron Paul. Look at Ron Paul's voting record. Look at what Rand Paul has done in the Senate in such a short time.Maybe that's why Ron Paul has the majority of support from the young people.

In your argument, you failed to mention Clinton. You know he grew government and government spending as well. The problem with the political groups of our Government is that they BOTH grow government.

Forgot to comment on this gem:

"The one thing that can be hung around Obama's neck is the stimulus package which every Keynesian economist supported...and 1/3 of the stimulus were MORE tax cuts supported by Republicans."

1. I believe that the issue we have is the Keynesian economic model that both administrations have promoted through the years.

2. Tax Cuts - let's put away the left vs right tax arguments for a second. The very definition of taxes is the forceful removal of monies from a private individual by a government entity. You cannot use tax cuts as a budget deficit. Your money belongs to you and any monies taken from you by your government is after the fact. The Federal government works for us, not the other way around. Hard idea to gasp, but I have non-Obama hope for you!

Satar, I agree with most of what you've written except that Clinton actually shrunk government.  And it looks like you subscribe to the Austrian School...also, I think there is, at least a little, libertarian in every American, I just don't think it would work in today's world.

I looked into this some more (Nice to have someone who challenges your views!). You are correct, he did reduce the size of government per 1000 people. However, he increased federal spending:

From  http://www.wnd.com/2006/08/37294/

"Viguerie compares spending by the federal government, adjusted for inflation, during the Clinton years vs. the Bush years. In Clinton’s first term, federal expenditures rose 4.7 percent. In his second term, they rose 3.7 percent. In the first term of the Bush administration, however, spending rose 19.2 percent."
